RIP: Furp --- Patrick Reed
I just heard about this through
selkit, that he was killed in a motorcycle accident. I think he captures it pretty well in his post here. I wouldn't post it here except for one thing. During FC 2003, he was my guiding light for Gofers. Admittantly, he was stationed on a US Navy ship somewhere and I don't recall seeing him at all pre-con, saw him for about half of the con itself, then lost touch with him. He showed me the silver lining of working Gofers, showed me a few tricks that I have passed on to my gofer successors. If it wasn't for Furp, I don't think I would have ever met
selkit at all.
Rest well, great dragon.

If it weren't for that...I too would have considered riding a motorcycle. More cost efficient, most of the time I am the only driver, lane splitting (when safe of course), etc.
But goes without saying...motorcycle vs car...irregardless of who is at fault...usually doesn't turn out pretty for the motorcyclist.
Especially people in big cars..think they're safe in tanks so they don't have to worry. Stupid SUV marketing and it trickles down. Course this is only part of the problem =(
