Politics suck.
Sep. 13th, 2004 07:53 pmAnd I'm not talking just con politics either.
And they don't give good blowjobs either. I know, I've used this pun before...but I'm not in a good mood right now.
- Iraq: Bush's following in his father's footsteps & meddling in things that aren't even his problem. Both President Bushes decided to invade Iraq. This ties to an image I sorta created/modified: Now Playing! This picture is a modificiation of the MAD magazine poster.
- Iraq casualties: Think about it realistically, folks. We've been in there for a year or more, and we've lost how many lives? Iraqui citizens haven't been counted, or have they? US troops have been dying. Coalition troops have been dying. Why are we doing this? The Clone of the Attack (see image above), is producing more of a problem than the president cares to admit, because he's a Narcisist and enjoys feeding his ego.
- Gun Laws: I don't mind the gun ban. I don't mind the right to bear arms, that is guaranteed in the Bill of Rights. I don't mind the fact that bears will be carrying assault rifles---Well, okay, that last one is probably a bit more opinionated. I wasn't impressed by his speech that he isn't going to renew the gun laws. I'm not going to deal with any of it. I don't own any guns, nor do I condemn my friends who are qualified to fire them. I don't blame
asahoshi for being certified to fire a gun, as she needed that training in order to get through ROTC. I don't blame the thirty or so friends I know in the military service, as the gun is a tool to save their lives. - Airlines: I don't mind the fact that carry on luggage get inspected. I don't mind that they require checked luggage be unlocked. What I object to is the policies that are instated by the president. I am feeling a tie here to the song by Maya Bohnhoff entitled Carry-Ons, which is TTO: Don'tcha Cry No More. The reason why this song is so accurate is because over 17,000 people have been ripped off by airport luggage inspectors. It's not something that the government can be terribly proud of...but why they are trying to continue with unefficient policies, I don't have a clue.
- Gay marriage: Before you read this, I ask you to remember where my loyalties lie. Why is Bush doing what he's doing? Because he's a homophobic Republican who enjoys discrimination & doesn't believe that equal protection under the law extends to homosexual US citizens. To quote my US Government final: "The preamble to the US Constitution states that citizens are entitled to life, liberty & the persuit of happiness. If the persuit of happiness is equal to marrying another member of the same gender, then it should be legal and the couple should be guaranteed equal protection under national law." Those probably weren't my exact words, but I do remember that our team won that debate. I have been watching the SF story closely, and I congradulate my many gay friends who got married, no matter how brief the license lasted. I feel that Gavin Newsom was in the right when he made it legal, but I am not comprehending why the state did what it did. I, personally, was hoping that this would happen for a long time before any government officials got involved, but what I hoped was that it would be legal without controversy & without bloodshed.
- Conventions: I don't mind these much. They're perhaps the only thing that keeps me tied into the fannish world. I love them dearly, because they are my family away from my family. I have nothing against the
mdlbear, the
flower_cat or
super_star_girl. But, it is through this extended family that I met
asahoshi. I don't know how long I will stay with my biological family, but I hope to eventually move out....and move in with select extended family. This ties in with my next bit... - Politics: Rumors spread like wildfire. Dictionary.com defines the word rumor as
- A piece of unverified information of uncertain origin usually spread by word of mouth.
- Unverified information received from another; hearsay.
furcon volunteers department for 3 years, Consonance Roadie Runners for 2 years, and now the single year of SiliCon's Mercury Runners. There were things said at this convention that are influencing my decision to go back as staff next year, but when I figure out who started it...I will do what I can to repair my reputation. - 9/11: A political excuse for Bush to continue stroking his ego & saying "I am going to continue to fight the war on terror by refusing to sign an extension on the gun ban" and so on. To quote President Roosevelt: "This is a day that will live in infamy." It seems to have become more famous than the Pearl Harbor incident, and I echo
mira_fastfire's perspective on this. Her full opinion & all the comments to the perspective of which I speak are readable here. I turned off the TV on that day because there wasn't really anything on...

Date: 2004-09-14 02:19 pm (UTC)There comes a time when one has to separate from a lot of things, and walk in the path that is right for you. It can be moving out of a living environment, or separating from activities and/or people. I know you've had a degree of disillusion going on for some time, and it may just be time to determine degrees and kind of involvement.
Gods teeth, I could tell you stories about stuff that was said about ME over the years. And in one case, I found something really damaging (not to mention untrue) was being spread by a current lover, who simply regarded it as an amusing exercise in rumor-mongering. (Yeah, I've had my share of bad judgement in choice of lovers.) And I hate to say it, but this sort of thing is pretty rife in the circles of fandom and related. It never really stops bothering you, but after a while you get more adept at letting it roll off of you. It helps to remember it's usually petty and/or shallow people who do it.
Hugs from your ever-dangerous firearms-adept Auntie.
