Silicon 2004 Aftermath

This is the day, folks. I no longer have to be responsible for all the volunteers @ this convention. It's the day after the con, everything's been loaded onto the damned trucks, and I'm home & well fed. I'm happy.
Thursday: Setup. Hoping for good-stuff the rest of the weekend, looking forward to Boffers. Watched the packet-stuffing & made no effort to try & help, because my period started a few hours before that. I decided it was in my best interest not to move....
Friday: First day of con. Needed body work by the above-mentioned Otter. I hadn't had that happen in a long time, and I was trying very hard not to get completly stressed out. Ran the Mercury Runners by myself until James & Ray showed up, giving me no time to try & enjoy things while I was waiting for them. When the finally did show up, I had things under control while Ray set up his computer. We started inputting information into the data base & had a grand total of 5 Mercs on the 1st day. This was good. Made a friend on the tech crew named Otter, and discovered she could do full body massage, back-cracking, and realignment. Took a number. Went to Mara's Bar (a Klingon party) for a while & met up with
entrpy and Jennifer, hanging out with them & learning of the vampire panel that was to happen the next day. Fell asleep with Otter giving me a light backrub. I wound up going back to the crash space & sleeping in the same bed as Dieter. I can't say I was really suprised, but there were already 5 of us in the room.
Saturday: A bit more stressful today. Got full body massage/realignment. Did my job like I was supposed to, then got off radio & off duty while I went to the panel on vampires. Asked
mdlbear for the lyrics to his song Vampire Megabyte, and created an interesting topic on vampire computer viruses. I was requested by Jennifer the night before to sing this song, and I didn't have the tune down completly....so I faked it. I think it worked, and I made them laugh. I must've been doing my job. Got more Mercs. Had a big confusion thing with the Masquerade people because the Masquerade was well organized & I had my Mercs there, but the FLARE folks seemed to think that we were missing some. It was a cluster-fuck, and was extremely short. I went to dinner, started to head back upstairs & then walked into to the
furcon party. I took my time there, but unfortunatly had to go back into the room. I asked a nice wolf (about 6' tall) to go into the furry party & get me some chocolate, in exchange for scritchies. He runs away, grabs the box of chocolates & comes back a few minutes later with the entire box. He couldn't pick up individual pieces very well, as his paws were a bit big. He brought it back to me, and I took a few pieces, making him go put the box back. He did, and I didn't catch up with him again until I was off shift for the night. Had fun, mostly. A few flash cameras went off during my time on the deck w/ the Klingons & furs, and also was challenged to a boffer spar. I enjoyed the sparring session, though I wound up on my back. No scheduled boffing tonight. My leg started acting up as I tried to get up from the deck, and it hurt. Went hot tubbing, and Otter said she'd find me. After a nice conversation with a few people in the hot tub & so forth, I got out & headed back up to the crash room. I was ready to crash, and stressed out. Wound up sleeping in the same bed as Otter, which I didn't mind. She's got a better sense of humor than Dieter (and is cuter, too). Body count was 4, I think.
Sunday: Seemed like this con was too good to last. It was a bit of a nightmare because we were trying to deal with load-out. Things got torn down a bit early, and we had some interesting moments that we didn't know what we were doing. We were running a bit faster than we were on Friday, because we had to be out of the art show rooms and such by a certain time. After around noonish, I believe...I was given a forced leave, where the Runners removed my badge & told me to go relax. Again to the hot tub I went, and once again found by Otter. Was nice & relaxing. A few hours of work, then went offline because of
mdlbear's concert slot. He pulled out the iWhack laptop (which has a very nice UI) and a crappy mic. I started to set up & wait, knowing that he was still doing sound checks. The recording button was pressed after a few minutes, and the recording began. I was watching the computer & looking around the room, heckling the concert as usual. Carol Parker told me to shut up @ least 3 times during said concert. My problem with her: she doesn't take into account that I have a special relationship with him....and doesn't consider that a valid reason for me to heckle the concert. Wandered around for a bit & debated going back to the hot tub. I found Otter & she said she'd work on my back when she returned to the crash room. I went there & waited for her, feeling the stress from Carol's insult building.
Monday: Another typical day in the life of a stressed out Runner. I was making sure that the Runners were doing what they were supposed to & hauling ass like they were supposed to, helping with the moveout. I gave every single one to Tech until they had finished moving out. The Hiss & Purr rolls around, and I thought all the Runners were done, because I saw a few of them there. After said Hiss & Purr, there were still a few things to be done. We had a body to find, and Otter was on a logistics run. I waited for her by the room where the Dead Dog was to be held, playing on my gameboy. A bit before the Dog started, Otter came back from the logistics run & noticed me: looking stressed & in some amount of pain. She cracked my back, and I felt better. We Runners were recognized for our hauling of ass throughout the con, and I recognized my hardest working Runner: Asp. He put in 26 hours, which is more than any Runner in the database at the time. As our numbers grow, I can hope we will have more like him. I finally caught up with
chershey as the Dog died. It was interesting: found out that we're both going to De Anza and set up a meeting with her for Friday after school begins. Hung out with her while Otter & the boys got drunk in ConOps, finally falling asleep when they called my radio & told me to get my ass into bed.
Today: Woke up around 7ish when someone's alarm went off. Didn't move. Remained in the bed, hugging Otter when she finally crawled into bed with me. I remained on the bed until 9ish, when she came to get me. I woke up a few minutes later, and followed her to Ops. We started hauling shit, and the organization of final load-out from ConOps to the truck wasn't the most well-coordinated run. I started to feel the back pains agian, and swore I'd do something, though I don't remember what it is now. Told Otter I'd look up VTA routes & see if we can get her over here tomorrow. Finally got home, courtesy of my friend MP3, who gave me a ride. Went Yuppy-food shopping with
flower_cat, and ate lunch. Came home & was told to make iced tea & put away the groceries. Put away some of them, and didn't put away some of them. Still need to check out the VTA routes & call her.....
End Silicon rant. Next rant: GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! Okay, I'm done. That was just my "it's over" rant. This means I have to go buy books soon for school, get VTA bus tokens, and a few other things like that. Bleah.
