Damn, damn & Double Damn.

I have a presentation on Thurs. 5 minutes long on Celtic music history. I don't have a paper to go on, and my information sources are taking time in comming back to me. I've made a phone call, but she's apparently busy. The thing is: I need this information before Thursday @ 1:30pm.

Will enter it into encarta CD encyclopedia thing when I get home tomorrow. If I'm lucky, I'll find something there. Tried Google, 357 different hits for History of Celtic Music. I can't narrow it down any more specific than that...but I'll try my luck and see how far it gets me.....

What would you like to know about it? I know quite a lot about it and have a little book to consult when it's something that I don't know.

Do they want Celtic (which is a fusion style), or can it include Irish music, which starts back with O'Carollan. And use the evolution to Celtic through things like ca. 1900 Tin Pan Alley songs like "Danny Boy," which never bore any relation to Irish music, truly qualifying as Early Celtic.

A lot of Irish music evolved using vocal "instrumentation" because in the 18th century penal laws, the English banned traditional Irish music as "barbaric" and destroyed any musical instruments they found. So you had people using la-la and ricky-tick and other conventions, and playing things like spoons, which couldn't be classed as instruments.

Talk to me tonight.

Ohh! Ooh! Ooh!
