With a vengance. I seem to remember [livejournal.com profile] flower_cat saying something about her reputation as "Mama to all." This seems to remind me now of my current college life. Out of my first 4 days of school, I have been the target of many forms of political and social bullshit...and it's starting to take it's toll. I'm now understanding why I will earn my rep in due cause. So far, I have run into 23 former Lincoln Lions, 4 former ex-s/o's, 2 FC staff people, and met about 8 people who have been there for what seems to me like eternity. In some cases, the "mama" job should be easy. In others, it'll be more of a stretch than one might care to think.

If I do wind up taking this job lightly, what will be happening is I will start to see people like [livejournal.com profile] thechick and friends start appearing a little more often in the Campus Center, and I will eventually become the central merit magnet. Seems like a great start for my fanish career in "following" Colleen's footsteps, doesn't it? Thought so.

How many more lives will I have to bring my duct tape for? Do I need to keep a roll of duct tape in my bag all the time? Does this mean that I will be bringing more friends home from school with me every month? Does this add to the insanity of it all? Have I truly gone bonkers? Is it just my imagination? School's not trying to kill me, but the drama is? How can I tell the difference between what's drama and what's not? Do I have friends amidst the drama that can be saved from a never-ending drama soap opera? Can I actually do something about the drama programs or shut it off? Am I in a nightmare? Reality? Will every quarter be like this? Where in the hell am I going to find the emotional support to keep going through this....existance? If there is anything that can save the state, why hasn't it...? (Different rant all together. Sorry....)

You can't save 'em all, chica. Embrace the power of "no."

Drama's when it happens again after you try to help once -- unless there's an actual physical issue that recurs.

You can't "save" anyone from a never-ending soap opera. All you can do is not get involved, just hanging out at the fringes, and let those who don't want the soap opera find you.

At least you're thinking about this... as opposed to perpetuating the Secret Mommy of Fandom meme without thinking.

Kiri's got it.

You need to put yourself first. It's not being selfish, it protecting yourself.

Sometimes, you just gotta say "No", no matter how much the other person is (seems to be) in need.

I agree. The word "boundaries" comes to mind...

I'm with Kiri and everyone else on this one.

"Duck and cover" is sometimes a useful strategy.
