C: tGY [Job XIV]

OK. To recap. I got laid off from USArchive on May 7. I've been looking for work since middle of April, trying to do something that would make me employed for a longer stint than 3 months. I may've found it.

2 weeks ago, I submit an application to work at SMX (A temp to hire agency currently helping Amazon Fresh at a warehouse facility.). Last week, I went in for my interview.

• Got there an hour and a quarter earlier than my interview time, armed with the following:
  • Resume
  • Letter of reference from my previous employer
  • List of personal and professional references
• convinced the security guy to find the manager
• got shown some paperwork by said manager, had skills test explained to me. 10 minutes to do.
• passed in 5 minutes with a perfect score.
• got shown more paperwork of the hiring variety.
• "Can you come back tomorrow with a copy of your degree?" and a "We will let you know as soon as a shift opens up, or within 2 weeks."

Got a call today from the manager type critter, who told me that I have an orientation this Friday and my days for next week are Sunday, Monday, Thursday and Friday.Graveyard shift. Not a bad start.

I have job nao!

me: Oh, nothing. It's not like I'm calling you to let you know I got a job or anything...

So, when you've got a paycheck, assuming it's not already spent, toddle over to downtown after work, take the 358 off 3rd and Union, and meet me at Aurora and 105th St. We can do brekkie and get you a brain bucket. And then I can take you home... or wherever. :)

You know, one of the advantages of motorcycles over cars is they probably are lower cost in terms of gas and maybe maintenance as well. I hadn't thought of that when we were talking about potential cost saving measures... but seeing Technoshaman's comment made me think.

Actually, for urban driving, I believe a scooter would be ever better than a motorcycle. AFAIK, vastly cheaper to begin with, and far lower fuel consumption. Motorcycles, as far as I can tell, are best suited for when you need to either a) go fast, or b) go far.

Right, but IIRC the law requires you to have a normal car driving license before motorcycle endorsement.

Good for you! The last language skills test I took, for an admin job, well, they said a few minutes. I finished it in 5-10 min., figuring I was slow.
Turns out I, too, got a perfect score, and I was apparently faster than usual. As time went, and we hired replacements, I saw people taking OVER an hour to do the same test. Needless to say, those persons taking over 30 min. were not called back.

Congratulations again, and may this one stick until you're ready to do the moving on.
