Good visit, though...

Nice way to end 2009.

• I had a nice long visit with my parents and a surprise visit from selkit which is referenced here. This was a good deal of fun when he wasn't being asleep.
• Had a great discussion with KG about a start-up he wants my help for. Won't pay off in the short term, but in the long run there's a 50/50 chance it may pay off.
• When I go home to Redmond, I'll have a kit to play with for chain mail. Hoping I can make a few bucks that way but am not holding my breath.
• I'll be attending Conflikt later this month and around filkers again, which is a cool and rare concept up north as I've only been to 3 filks since I moved.
• Immigration stuff for selkit is complicated, and for his move down here we are not going to be receiving any help from his family for plans in the US. Bleah. "Boot-strap." That's our nickname now. Because that's what we're going to be holding on to. Grrrr.


• sold a bag to moshez that was listed on my Etsy store. Wasn't expecting to sell anything this trip.
• Went to KOC w/ silverstorm2013, his lady and selkit, having a few drinks, a few games of pool and a few songs filled with drunken craziness.

I just want to live somewhat normally: a job, family, stable place to live....all at once.

I hate to say it, but avoid the jewelry coifs and such. Real jewelry- in silver, done well, can pull in some money. Using steel (don't bother with aluminum for selling suff) stick to armor. That measn big projects and means putting in the hours. But if you really, really coil enough in advance and get coffee cans full of open rings, closed rings, and pyramids (individual 4 in 1s) you can get a lot of work done watching TV, riding in car, or whatever. it's not impossible at all to pull off a coif and a mantle in a week. 2 weeks for a shirt, but you might have it for a while before you find someone to lay down $350 or $400 in this economy....

wish you were local enough to train up on leather. I'm startin to need a new sheathmaker.
