Had a second interview for Cost Plus this morning. Looking at it rihgt after it happened, I'd say it went well. Looking at it with hindsight, I may have sabotaged my chances by saying the wrong thing. *sigh* I just want a gorram job. Too much to ask? Thought so....

With the exception of this one (as it's still too early to tell if I have the job or not), every interview I've had since moving up here has been a dead end where they either hire someone better qualified for the position or someone less qualified wanting untrained monkies as opposed to those with training. I have stared at Craigslist for days on end, responding to anything I think I'm qualified for and can get to easily. 2/3 never respond, and the ones that do are some sort of money institution that I don't trust if it's based in another country.

I just want something about this damn job hunt to go my way. For once...preferably before I hit rock bottom.

Love you, sweetie. I commiserate and wish I could help you somehow. Good luck...

If you get beaten out by a better (or falsely perceived as better) candidate, that's just the breaks. You just go on to the next one, and try to show how wonderful you really are.

Are you on the state job board too, or just craigslist & such?

I mean the state unemployment or EDD office (whatever they call i up there); the one you get regular jobs from. My current best-I-ever-had job was from a company HR/recruiter spotting my short resume on the CalJobs database and getting curious...

Here's some hard love.

I did mention several months ago that WA state ESD offers free training in things like effective interviewing, resume-writing, and so forth. Since I've consulted for them in the past, I know they do good work.

I'd like to think you've pursued these options, but it sounds from the below that you're implicitly choosing emo and angst in LJ over investing in a job search strategy that will actually lead to a real paying job.

If so, that's really a shame: it's a set of skills you'll rely on for the rest of your life, and it's something most of us have to learn at some point.

In boom times, it was super-easy to get an entry-level job in Silicon Valley without rock-solid job search skills. I don't think I need to point out that it's not 2006 in Silicon Valley anymore.

You have an amazing opportunity to successfully develop lifelong job search skills right now.

Good luck,

Eli

Hey have you tried signing up with an employment agency for the interim? You can get called to work for a day or a week here and there. Adecco is one of the world's biggest, I worked for one of their offices here in AB and they were really good. Each day you ask to be put on the call list, or if you don't then they won't bother you.
