PSAt & Realization
Jan. 14th, 2009 02:59 pmPSA: In the event of my network fu failing to work during FC and likelyhood of me not finding amicable arrangements in the Seattle/Bellviue area, I will be continuing my life in the bay working for temp agencies and potentially moving out of Starport proper but will most likely still be in the area. Can't drive, but will help towards rent and suchlike.
Realization: If I can, I want to see Selkit to the border. I want to be able to stay, but can't due to circumstances of inability to afford. I know about the vacancy @
silverstorm2013's apartment, and I will be doing a look around for potential other vacancies in apartment-stuffs post-con. I am going to hope that things materialize and at least one of my contacts with the web propositions works out for me.....guess time for me to make phone calls and stuff.
This is truly my hour of need. I do not have any idea what is to become of me, and I'm about to hit a scary world with little practical experience in any of these fields involving jobs and absolutely no practical experience living anywhere for longer than three months. I have stayed with
selkit for that long at a time, and am fully aware that if I attempt stuff on my own it will result in uber-disaster and thensome because I have never done it before. I wish to try will be discussing moving in with a friend first, in the Mountain View region for now assuming that the Network Fu failiure happens. The prospect occurred to me that if I moved there, I may be able to apply for an old job at BookBuyers, which...while not ideal, will be something. The point behind this investigation is so that I can obtain a job to bank up savings while keeping my tail covered in terms of rent. I will be hunting tomorrow on craigslist for small freelance potential stuffs and trying not to make my brain explode.

Date: 2009-01-15 01:18 am (UTC)Your best bet is to get a McJob and start building a rep as a hard worker and a reliable employee. This will involve adjusting your personal life. If your job and a con conflict, the job comes first. When you're in a career position and reasonably secure, then you can bend work to your will.
Finally, expand your horizons beyond fandom. I'm a fan, but also have contacts in the Bay Area metal scene, among Deadheads, veterans, fellow drivers, etc. The wider your net, the more likely your success.

Date: 2009-01-15 01:44 am (UTC)e.g. most of my last paycheck just went for hiring the core of the Pittsburgh Symphony's strings section for a filk album in a studio (parenthetically, with an engineer who has 5 Grammy awards and 2 other nomination ;-).
But that's possible because work knows that I'll bust my ass whenever it's needed, and the hobby comes second.
