OK. Remember that interview I was so nervous about? I start @ 0800 Monday morning. That means a few different things. I have to buy a bus pass, I have to memorize a new bus route, need to talk with
mdlbear about the possibility of dropping classes (since it's still early and I haven't bought my books I can drop without consequence & get refund), still have to call
selkit, have to get used to going to bed early...EDIT (prompted to by
figmo): I am working @ Bookseller's Online (I think that's the name). Corrections made to this statement after work Monday.
What this means:
And now: benefits.
I'm hyper....because I got a job. *does a little happy dance, then cheshire-lurks on
selkit's shoulder*
What this means:
- I will have an income.
- I will gain work experience.
- It will give me a taste of reality: responsibility, obligation, cooperation, financial difficulty.
- Something else to put on my resume.
And now: benefits.
- $9.00/hr (to a poor starving college student, it's awfully damn good!)
- Medical/Dental (optional) $75/mo each, (though I only have to pay $10 for each)
- Warehouse work: no contact with general public, just my cow-orkers. Sue is a really awesome fannish lady who seems like my sort of person. I mean, she's kind, understanding, SCAthian & fannish. A dragon on punctuality, and way too busy.
- Annual Accural of 29 days off after 3 months of (informal) evaluation, and 7 holidays off. If I can't show up for whatever reason, I call in. Sue doesn't care why I'm not going to show up as long as I call in ahead of time.
- I can borrow up to 10 books at a time, 5 immediately. I can also buy from the website/Mountain View Store/Warehouse @ 25-50% off, depending on the item.
- Training for multiple positions within said building, so I can be versatile.
- If I need a paycheck advance, they will give me $/2 for the hours worked, taking it out of my next paycheck.
- Raise = possible if they come out of their budget crunch. Until then, no hopes are high.

Try to accept that yes, you'll probably be nervous (at the least)and that's
100% normal, even for those of us who've had many jobs--the beginning is always kinda nerve wracking--well, it usually has been for me,anyway,LOL!
Best o' luck on your funky new adventure! I look forward to hearing about it!

Date: 2006-09-08 10:23 pm (UTC)Is this the little girl I carried?
Is this the little girl at play?
I don't remember growing older
When did they?
When did she get to be a beauty?
When did she get to be so tall?
Wasn't it yesterday
When they were small?
Sunrise, sunset
Sunrise, sunset
Swiftly flow the days
Seedlings turn overnight to sunflowers
Blossoming even as we gaze

Date: 2006-09-12 03:48 am (UTC)Is this a typo? Or is this including vacation, medical leave, etc. under one umbrella term? Because I have NEVER worked a job that offered me more than three weeks' paid leave - and that was after I'd been there over five years.
