[livejournal.com profile] chaoswolf: "Whose?"
Emmy: "Yours."
Me: "With Kyrethia? No time soon."
Emmy: "Why not?"
Me: "Because the gov't is controlled by conservative homophobic bastards. That's why."
Emmy: "I've never understood politics."
Me (after she left the room): "I haven't understood it since day 1."

Excuse me... You could save your money and go to Canada to get married. Or better yet. Get married in England like Elton John is doing in December with his longtime partner. Sooner or later, California will Oh, now I remember go to my home state of Massachusettes...Yeh ay A wedding in city hall and lobster dinner at Anthony's Pier one restaurant... that is a good idea.

It would depend on whether she's willing to stay living in the country she gets married in. Same-sex marriages in other countries are not considered legal here, so even if she does get married in, say, Canada, it wouldn't make that much of a difference. =\

I hate to say it, but you do understand it. Politics is often about one group of people trying to inflict its idea of "society" on everyone else.

Marriage is a religiouse act. If you care that the goverment beleives your married or not then you should probably think long and hard about why and whether you realy want to get married; then if you still want to you can just get a handfasting or one of the numerouse "go be married and just dont tell the goverment cuase there head will explode and make a mess" things out there.

Is both religious & legal. Certain legal protections/obligations are very real and, at a minimum, difficult to duplicate without a government sanctioned marriage. Some of our mutual not-legal friends may have a better idea than I do of how much can be done without that paperwork.

However, either kind of marriage (forgive me for butting in, but you've admitted it too) seems a bit premature at this point.

Personally I think the goverment will let up on that. That will have to come around eventually. Hopefully soon, you may be able to get married yet. But you really are too young to marry. maybe in a few years.
