Not necessary, in my opinion. Just making announcements on my LJ and yours is probably enough, along with pointing people at the household web page for things like party dates.
One of the things that a starport LJ community would do is encourage non-Starport interactions between the Starport's guests, thereby likely reducing attendance at the parties since there is less of a need to socialize with those specific folk.
