Homosexuality
Apr. 3rd, 2005 12:03 amI know I don't rant much about things like this, but after reading
baka_skunk's most recent post, I can't get this out of my mind. So this will be a full fledged rant. I can't express it enough. The world, no...the government: filled with these religious biggots who will do anything and everything to prevent homosexuality. I commend former president William Blythe Clinton for his actions in the military with the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy. I condemn heavily the actions of current president G.W. Bush for his efforts in trying to ban gay marriage.
People are intelligent, people are stupid, people are homophobic, people are homosexual. I can't seem to get this line out of my head though: "Citizens of the United States as is decreed in the Declaration of Independence, are entitled to "life, liberty, and the persuit of happiness." If the persuit of happiness is to spend your life with and be married to a member of the same gender, then why isn't it legal?" That was from my Sr. Government class debate, and that was my argument. The answer to this is that it is not legal because of the brearucratic assholes who are trying to ban it because they are all religious fanatics whose heads are shoved too fucking far up their asses. I agree with
baka_skunk that discrimination of this nature is definatly wrong, as I have faced a good deal of it myself. Unfortuntaly, the only solution to this other than hoping they legalize it soon is to G&BI which stands for Grin & Bear It. This is one of the hardest things to do in these types of situations, but it is perhaps the only thing you can do.
These marriage licenses that were issued by San Fransisco have been invalidated by the California Supreme Court. I believe Mayor Gavin Newsom did not step outside his political barriers, seeing as how San Fransisco is the most populated gay/lesbian/bi/transsexual city in the country. If I were from another state, I know that I would drag Mayhem out here to get married in good ol' SF. OTOH, the courts do have final say over things of this nature. So it is our job as gay, straight, bi, whatever supporters to try to either 1) organize an online petition, or 2) try to organize a real paper petition and either way try to make it legal. I am not very good at wording petitions, but I would be grateful if someone could help me find an online petition site & write one up. If I have any people who read this that can make color bars supporting the Gay-Straight continum, I would credit and use on my website, LJ, and anywhere else I happen to place it.
Seriously, folks. Just because we all live in the same country doesn't mean we have to discriminate in order to get what we want.

Samurai Editor strikes again....
Date: 2005-04-03 08:53 am (UTC)Condone != disapprove. You're looking for condemn.
Finally, I know it's difficult to remember when one is ranting under a full head of steam, but rants tend to be better received if they've been spell-checked.
Regarding the content of your rant:

And Blythe was either the middle or last name before he changed it to whatever it is now. Found this out through a history teacher in 7th grade who said that Clinton was a very distant relative of hers.

Date: 2005-04-03 08:57 pm (UTC)The excesses of the previous generation affect the responses of the following. Too much excess provokes a conservative backlash, which starts the damn cycle over again. wherever and whenever you go moderation is one of the most difficult qualities to find. Question is are we in vice or "virtue".
Are we hiding our sins behind closed doors, or parading them for all to see.
The irony may be that heaven will perhaps populated by those who consider them selves sinners, and hell by the rightious.
(note for those of you who don't know me Im not usually this mopey)
