Moving out is an option. If I can figure out how to do it.
Pros:
  • Would get me away from my sister
  • would give me somewhere else to be
  • Would keep me out of arguments between my parents

Cons:
  • Nobody to move in with that I can think of
  • No income to help with rent
  • No way of paying rent if I were to get my own place
  • I burn water (meaning I cant cook worth much of anything. Mmmm. Spagehtti O's...yuck.)

Seriously thinking about it. Just no way to do it AFAIK. Besides, would be nice if I could move in with some friends from school, that way I can have room/carpool rather than pay expensive bus fees. Ah well. It's something I will seriously have to work on, I guess.

There's always dorm life, and there are TONS of options to help pay for that. :)

And tv dinners (especially the healthier ones like Healthy Choice) and ramen (assuming you don't have any problems with salt). And pre-cooked chickens from Safeway, and stuff like that.

IMHO, I think it'd be good for you. But, honestly, only if you're stable. How did the doctor-ness-possible-SSRIs go?

SSRI is a type of antidepressant. It gives your neurons an extra chance at "absorbing" serotonin, which lifts one's mood. :)

If you can get past the other barriers, cooking shouldn't be too serious a woe. You can always take cooking classes! And, speaking as someone who is the child and grandchild of serious non-cooks, it's possible to recover from such a family, at least moderately.

Hey, I've told her to talk to me about my "survival cooking" lessons. And I'm the child of serious non-cooks who learned to cook out of self-defence (and hasn't stopped since...).

I agree with mira and sdorn. You can overcome the problems of cooking, easily.

Is there a way that you can cut back on some classes, enough that you could get a job to help pay for rent?

Cooking really isn't that hard, at least for basic stuff. The key is to pay attention to what you're doing, and, until you know what you're doing, follow the directions. I recommend How To Boil an Egg; it covers a lot of basic stuff that many other cookbooks assume you know, but it doesn't assume you're an idiot.

BTW, a lot of time there are jobs available through the college, that are intended specifically for students. The one catch is that you have to be academically in good standing and carrying a full-time student class load.

The traditional method of leaving home is to be going to a 4-year college someplace far away, or at least out of commuting range.

Meanwhile, I'd go with Jilara's suggestion and look for a part-time job via the college.

You may be selling yourself a little bit short there -- certainly your gopher-wrangling skills would be sufficient for a job as some kind of minor administrative paper-pusher.

And why do you think I've been pushing you to take computer classes?

um boiling water and steaming vegitables go together (you can do both at the same time) when the eggs click on the side of the pan, the vegitables are usually done or nearly so. its how I survive.
and traditional dorm food is low on vitamins b,d,c etc, and low in mineral content. as for meats I tend to let them sit overnight in an alcoholic citrus marinade with some rosemary for extra flavor. then slapit on a pan blacken the outside, and its done.

my self defence against mexican home cooking

the problem is keeping all the ppl from drinking the marinade before it has any meat in it.
