Well....I thought Winter break would be fun! I was wrong....
Here I am on the 6th day of winter break. I tried to have fun this break. Really I did. That's what break is all about, right? Defrag from school, relax, hang out with your friends, not have to take tests or go to any school whatsoever. Damn, what a waste of valuable time I could've spent sleeping.......
Day 0.5 (Feb 14, 6:30pm): Well, I went to a dance that was "Dance For Peace" up @ the YWCA in Palo Alto. It was cool! We had a big turnout, I made a sign, I watched a door....(sounds like BayCon, Don't it? Me and my watching doors.....definatly sounds like BayCon!) I had sugar, I had fun! It was cool!!! I even got caffeene!!! I didn't get home until around 11 though.
Day 1 (Feb 15): Anti-war protest march. That was cool!!! I assembled with a few of my friends at the 11am assembly, thinking that I was the only student from Lincoln there, until I ran into 10 other people who were also from school. Around 12:48 or so, I was leading several chants that were towards the rear of the marching crowd, making a damn fine show of the peace that we seek. When we got to the plaza around 1pm, I ran into yet another person from school, totalling 11 of us there. (There were 2,500 total marchers from what I heard, but only 11 from my school.) Then, I had to take the bus home during the Congressperson's speech. I thought she was a Republican & would side with the President (I'm a hardcore Democrat and wouldn't have it any other way).
Day 2 (Feb 16): I went to San Fransisco to go see a Gilbert & Sullivan production, entitled Princess Ida. The 1st act of this production was complicated for my poor confuzled brain....I found out later that the prince & princess were actually "betrothed" and haven't actually been married, although the prince has to "claim his bride". During the second act when the 3 men got busted for breaking into an all Women's academy, I was making a crack about giving Princess Ida a set of studded leather armor and a sword, then she'd be Ida: Warrior Princess! (Girlfriend smacked me after that one...) During act 3, Ida was wearing metal armor and a helmet. She didn't have a sword, but my crack was semi-accurate....
Day 3 (Feb 17): Tour of Brooks College. Agh. I don't like the cirriculum they offer, but the laptop is a bonus with the tuition. It sounds like a good idea to me, but Dad said "Let's investigate other places first...." and he gave a lot of other blah about it.
Day 4 (Feb 18): I went to the DMV to try to get my learner's permit. What a line.....I spent a long time there....unwillingly. I picked up the DL 44 form, and was turned away from applying for it that morning due to the fact that I needed both parents to sign it. I only had Mom with me at that time, so it didn't help.
Day 5 (Feb 19): Back to DMV. We get there around 8:40 or something in the morning, wait until 9am, then go into the building. I spend a long time in line, knowing that 11:00am I had company. I took the test, and bombed, missing 13. I was supposed to miss 8 or less in order to pass, so I have to go back sometime next week.....grr. Around 10:50 or so, we get home. My friend shows up 20 mins late, but she's nice like that, so I let her slide. However, during the course of the evening, she was supposed to stay the night. I was disappointed when I heard that there had been a change of plans on her end and that she had to leave. That was disturbing, and I'm slightly irked at her parents for not telling me that it wouldn't work. I woke up several times in the early morning, like 1am, 2:30am, 4am, etc.
Day 6 (Feb 20): Well, today I was downstairs all day so far. I am slightly pissed with my sister for trying to turn off the stereo when I'm listening to it....she wanted to watch a DVD & tried to call Mom to tell on me for it. I tied up da phoneline by calling popcorn, and pissing her off. I finally took the phonebook away from her and put it in my back pocket until she shut up........

If you don't like the curriculum, there's no point in going. Don't worry; we'll get you a new laptop -- or desktop, if that's what you need -- no matter where you end up. The difference in tuition between Brooks (which is a private vocational school) and a JC or state school will more than make up the cost of a computer.
Your decision should be almost entirely based on the curriculum, and to a lesser extent the campus, teachers, and students. Oddly enough, college is not entirely about classes, though that's a significant part. A lot of it is just being around the kind of people who are smart enough and cluefull enough to be going to college. It's a lot like fandom in that respect.
