Dad: you've done something to my computer. I want to totally wipe the HD, reinstall the OS and not have any problems. Whatever it was you did (probably the linux partition), fucked with my system and now it's being really slow & has a bunch of issues. I want it fixed.

2ndly, I appreciate the fact that my sister was willing to spend $ on me in order to give me chocolate. However, when the toilet is jammed, I want her to tell me when this happens so I don't have to fight with her.

Countdown until X-mas bash: 11 days.
Countdown until my vacation with [livejournal.com profile] asahoshi: 12 days.
My reaction when school resumes the day after I get back: Priceless.

Sorry...

Absolutely nothing in the Linux partition can have any affect whatsoever on your Windows partition -- Win$ simply can't see it at all. Most likely it's spyware or a virus. You could try downloading AdAware and Spyware Search & Destroy (Google for them). You need BOTH. See if you can find a free antivirus program, too. Lots of crud gets installed along with IE toolbars and file-sharing programs, among other things. Oh, and try defragmenting the disk, also.

Rather than reinstall from scratch, if the ad and virus checkers don't fix it, you have a backup program on your hard drive. Do a restore from the latest version. And don't forget to install ALL the patches after that.

Repeat: Linux did not mess with your system.

Free web virus scanner for Windows from a good anti-virus program: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

It doesn't install anything lasting, just does a scan at a time when you connect. I use it at home periodically.

Good, resident antivirus software: http://www.grisoft.com/ , for AVG Free Edition. It's consistently performed better than Norton Antivirus in independent certifications. (as in, it reliably detects viruses, and it doesn't falsely flag non-viruses.)

Spyware and adware /suck/.
