Political Bushshit
Ok. If in the 1st paragraph of his stupid little speech he says and I quoth: "Bush said it is "important for society to welcome each individual,"This means that all individuals should be given the right to marry whomever the hell they want, straight and queer alike! I don't give a vrelt's ass if Bush says it is morally incorrect. I don't give a shit if Bush says that the whole thing of being gay is wrong. I don't care about his whole quest to insure that the country is a "Good little Catholic Nation."

To quote from the movie Merlin: "I thought Camelot was supposed to be different." "It is!" "Then show the world you mean it!" If Bush really was trying to make the U.S. different, he would encourage the marriage of homosexuals instead of trying to prevent them! Does anyone see where I'm going with this?

The war on Iraq was sorta necessary. Why is it necessary to prevent the homosexuals of the nation (myself and my s/o Mayhem included) from marrying? I mean, I don't understand all the BushShit that is getting thrown around stating that heterosexuals are the only type of couples in America. By preventing gay marriages, does George even realize how many lives he's destroying?

In some people's eyes, Bush is a hero. In other people's eyes, he is considered a very serious road block. We have never been able to properly handle the gay marriage issues with presidents of this country. How many more innocent queer lives must be destroyed (via hate crimes or otherwise) before he sees what he's done to this country? How many men\women have served in government, either on a state or national level, have devoted their political career to finding a way to break the moral barrier in order to legalize these marriages?

In the U.S. Constitution, it states in the Preamble "All men are created eqaul, and that they are endowed by their creator with certian unalienable rights...life, liberty and the persuit of happiness." Does it not? I think it does. If the persuit of happiness involves a legal marriage to your queer lover, why are we not allowed to do it? People shouldn't have to flee the country in order to get a gay marriage performed and brought their license back to the U.S..... I mean, it's just not cricket! And I know that Vermont has something called a 'civil union' and certain laws that are pretty close to a legal gay marriage, but it's just not the same thing. It doesn't promote the protections of a heterosexual marriage, does it? No it does not.

This was my final for US government, was doing a lot of research on this topic and presenting it to the admins. I know damned well that in order for it to be "equal" that it needs to offer the same benefits of a heterosexual marriage.

Well-put!

That was the Declaration of Independence...

"We, the People of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, ensure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty for ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."

You were thinking of "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that man is created with certain inalienable rights, among these...", which is the Declaration of Independence (and which is not a document of the USA, only the document which declared independence for the 13 colonies from Great Britain before the USA was formed. It even pre-dated the Articles of Confederation.).

God. It's been so long since I had to do a paper on this...

But I do agree.
