Dad: You should vote for Ship of Stone by Don Simpson.
Me: Why?
Dad: Because it's a good song and I'm trying to get it on the ballot.
Me: Plenty of other good writers out there, you know.
Dad: Better cast your nominations by this Thursday. Do a Google for it.
Me: You should post a link in your LJ for it, then.
Dad: You're right....I should.

Isn't Chaos able to make up her own mind as to who to nominate, and who to vote for? Rather than having her parents tell her who she 'should' vote for?

You're so right, Kyle. I think the only reason why he told me I 'should' vote for it is so he can get it on the ballot. Pointless reason, if you ask me. I think he should be on the damned ballot, so I may as well vote for him.

Chaos is, indeed, quite capable of making up her own mind. That, however, doesn't deprive me of my parent's right to make suggestions, just as it doesn't deprive her of her right to ignore them and do as she damned-well pleases.
