Deja-vu over at Frys
Aug. 30th, 2003 04:38 pmWell, your best buys are always at Frys! What about your worst daydreams as well? A while ago, some of you may remember I recieved a digital camera from
mdlbear as a graduation present.
Frys is an evil place. During the camera retrieval, we spent the day looking at cameras until we settled on a nice model that we saw. I looked at the other models and couldn't find one I liked....so we asked a non-intelligent sales droid if they had any in the store. It was pretty bad because the sales droid didn't know his computer inventory from a hole in the wall. I was pissed. We went to the Frys up in Sunnyvale, and were able to find the camera we were looking for. We also encountered a sales droid who was even worse than the one in the San Jose Frys. We had to ask for the camera specialist, who knew the difference. We finally came out with a nice digital camera.
The computer was another thing entirely. We went to the San Jose Frys to check out the laptops after some research on the Fujitsu. We settled on the S-series 6000, and we thought that San Jose had one in stock. We were wrong. The sales droid said that there was only the display model and would check his other stores via their crappy network inventory which is innaccurate. He said Campbell has one, and I took his word for it. Me and
mdlbear went to the Campbell Frys and found yet another sales droid. He was asking if we needed help. We said yes, and said that we wanted the fujitsu. He came back 5 minutes later and grabbed the piece of paper that had the tech specs on it. Ran away again. 5 minutes later, he came back with the paper and 2 Sony computers, which were of the laptop variaty to our left, not what we had asked for. He ran away after asking "You wanted the Fujitsu?" When he did come back, he had the computer of the proper model.
mdlbear asked to see the contents of the box. Sales droid complied after acquiring permission from his superior. We saw that the box had been opened and returned several times, but we managed to agree we'd take it. The guy showed us to the front, and told us he'd give us a 5% discount on the laptop, so instead of paying the $1699 we were expecting, we got $85 off. Nice computer for being Windows XP driven.
Problem: We got it home and tried to put it on the network. It seems to be a ghost as far as locating the other computers. It's recognized and seen by the network, it just doesn't recognize & see the network. That's all for now.
